Mini Fest, an annual artistically-focused kids and family festival, is expanding from its home in Chicago and hosting its first ever Mini Fest in Milwaukee on June 30. Founder and creative director Sydney Walters is looking for creative artists and small businesses to host workshops or sell their wares as vendors.
“We’ve been doing Mini Fest in Chicago for five years,” says Walters. “It’s been growing every year, it will be nice to see how it grows in Milwaukee.”

Mini Fest strives to make the art-making festival memorable, accessible and engaging for all ages. The main pull of Mini Fest is the Mini Workshops. Artists and creative entrepreneurs gather to teach kid-friendly (pre-k through middle school) interactive workshops. Participants go around from table to table to participate in a small project that will help foster creative conversations and flex their imagination muscles.
Each activity should take between 15 and 30 minutes to complete. Mini fest provides the table, chairs and tents and will be responsible for ticketing and processing fees. Workshop hosts set their own price for the tickets, and will take home 70% of the total ticket sales.
Past workshops have included projects like dyeing a bucket hat, sun printing cyanotypes, button making, decorating a pop tart and so on. If you want to join Milwaukee artists like Brush Box and Back Pocket Creations and teach a workshop of your own, fill out the registration form with your information by Sunday, May 5.

In addition to workshop hosts, Mini Fest is also looking for vendors to sell their homemade creations. In the past, vendors have sold things like art kits, art supplies, candles and works of art. You can join local vendors like Anna Ellie Art and JubiArtDesign and sell your creations at Mini Fest, by filling out the registration form by Sunday, May 5.
If you’re not looking to host a workshop or be a vendor, but want to attend the festival, keep an eye out for ticket sales on the website closer to the date of the event. You can buy tickets ahead of time or day of, get a ticket book and get a stamp for each activity. VIP ticket books will also be for sale, which will include access to every workshop, plus an extra gift. Walters recommends purchasing tickets before the festival, “each year the really popular events sell out.”
